8 Ways to Earn Money Online Outside of Poker

February 14, 2020

Today, to earn money online is a real possibility as the digital nomad lifestyle is gaining more traction. It gives you the freedom to organize your life the way you want to, for example work from a beach in Thailand, and all that without a boss sitting on your head.

If you’re a professional poker player and working online (poker nomad), you already know that. But here is the catch. Poker isn’t the only option out there. There is a whole world of opportunities to earn money online that are waiting for you to grab them.

In this blog post, we’ll cover some of them. So, let’s dive in.

Earn Money on the Internet and become a Digital Nomad

1. Cryptocurrencies

The buzzword in the last couple of years, cryptocurrencies hold a number one place on this list for a reason. There are many ways to earn online with cryptocurrencies without investing, as you can read in the post linked.

For example, airdrops. Complete small tasks for blockchain/crypto startups, and watch free coins roll into your crypto wallet.

Or, if you’re willing to invest in the required equipment, consider Bitcoin mining. However, you may have missed the boat on that already unless you’re willing to invest big chunks of cash.

If you’re just getting started with crypto, have a look at this blog.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Have you ever heard the expression: ”Make money while you sleep”? That’s what affiliate marketing is all about.

How does it work?

In a nutshell, you promote other people’s products, and in case someone actually buys the product thanks to your marketing efforts, you earn a commission.

How to start earning online with affiliate marketing?

The best option is to start with a blog. Create helpful content that solves certain pain points, gather an audience, and build your email list. Once you get traffic and emails you can start selling!

3. Dropshipping

Dropshipping allows you to start an online business and sell products without stocking them or holding any inventory. This means that if you sell a product, it’s purchased from the third party, and shipped directly to the customer.

So, how to start a dropshipping business? First, decide whether your business will be a sole proprietorship, limited liability company, or C corporation.

Then, get a business checking account, collect sales tax, and obtain a local business license. And you’re set to go.

4. Freelancing

Freelancing as a way of earning money online is so huge that it deserves a separate blog post. But in short, a freelance job is one where a person works for themselves instead of a company, and offers their expertise as a service.

Here are some the jobs that are in demand when it comes to freelancing:

  • Software developer
  • Content strategist
  • Virtual assistant
  • Social media manager
  • Graphic design

You can offer your freelance services on platforms like UpWork.

5. Investing

Deciding what to invest your poker winnings in and how much can be tricky, especially if you’re a newbie.

However, I can suggest a simple plan to start with. First, how much can you afford to invest. In other words, how much can you afford to lose.

Then, choose a broker and open an investment account. Choose what you want to invest in: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or exchange-traded funds.

Finally, depending on your goals, pick an investment strategy.

6. Trading with stocks or cryptocurrencies

Trading can be a great way to diversify your income, especially if you’re financially savvy. If you’re not, you better acquaint yourself with the market.

The next step is to find a broker and trading platform to trade with stocks, or reliable and secure crypto exchange, like Coinbase, if you decide to trade with cryptocurrencies. Then, do detailed research and create a trading plan.

7. Blogging

Making money with a blog, whether it’s a hobby or full-time business is possible. In fact, some bloggers regularly reach six or even seven figures with their blog earnings.

Earning with a blog means that you’ll have to monetize it. How? There are several ways to do that, including:

  • PPC ads
  • Selling private ads
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Selling digital products
  • Selling membership
  • Selling course

Additionally, you can offer coaching services, as I do with PokerCEO.

Of course it helps if you have a track record where your advice actually works and makes a positive impact in someone’s life!

8. Consulting or Coaching

If you have specific knowledge about a certain subject, and you can solve the problem people face in their private life or business, you can succeed as an online coach or consultant.

Create a website, get traffic and attract potential customers, and start selling your services.

Focus on the niche you’re an expert in.

Conclusion

Earning money online is realistic, but it requires hard work, dedication and consistency. And after years of life as a poker & digital nomad, I can proudly say with certainty: it’s totally worth it.

Besides the listed ones, there are a bunch of other ways to earn online such as completing online surveys, getting paid for searching the web, Youtube videos, writing and publishing Kindle ebooks, and more.
